Juri Sternburg is a writer and playwright based in Berlin-Kreuzberg. He has been writing for theatre, film, and television for many years. His work moves between social observation and personal experience: direct, precise, and with a clear understanding of what language can do.

He became known with his debut play der penner ist jetzt schon wieder woanders, which won the Stückemarkt at Berlin’s Theatertreffen in 2011.

Since then he has written numerous theatre texts, audio plays, and books, including the SPIEGEL bestsellers Germania and King of Rap.

As a screenwriter, he most recently created the series ASBEST and Die Zweiflers, which premiered at the Canneseries Festival in 2024 and received multiple awards there, including “Best Series”. It went on to win several major awards in Germany as well, among them the Grimme Award and the German Television Award.

His new play East Side Story – A German Jewsical will premiere at the Maxim Gorki Theater on December 18, 2025.

For REMÆR, Juri designed a shirt that grew out of conversations about origin, identity, and everyday life. In the contradictions that shape us, he finds strength; a space where art can emerge.

This piece translates his perspective into a new form: personal, honest, and close to what moves him.
